Family Time: Pizza night!

Family night! It's like herding cats, right?

There is a point when the devices take over. It's not inevitable, though; you just have to invest energy into putting other ways to connect in front of the urge to reach for the device. I know, it's an uphill battle, but so so worth it. One of the things we do regularly is prioritize family together time on Sunday evenings. When we do a project meal (like make pizza together), it will be on Sunday. Sure, friends can join, too, but family has to be present for it.

Pizza night stars homemade pizza dough (current favorite recipe here on the sister recipe site). We've tried a few different dough recipes, not all of which are repeats. This one is a keeper because it is super simple to make, easy to shape, and tastes great. You can definitely use dough purchased from the store; some restaurants that serve pizza also sell their dough.

Chez Brown toppings are varied and creative: whatever is in the fridge is fair game. Certainly salamis, hams and other meats; I love tuna on my pizza; various cheeses, especially combinations of melty cheeses and harder, more flavorful cheeses; olives, capers, pepperoncini, jalapenos and other briny additions; fresh and sun-dried tomatoes; roasted peppers; pineapple and apple have made appearances, as did melon (added after baking); veggies like mushrooms, broccoli and spinach; fancy layering of cheeses and meats. We usually have a basic red sauce, but pesto, harissa, barbecue, and various Asian sauces have also been included. Any extra cheese is usually "frico-ed"; nothing can go to waste!

The end result is of course judged for taste and appearance.

Making pizza is a great family activity.... and in the end, you get a great meal out of it!
